Technical Meeting: Automotive Product Development Accelerated by Cloud Computing

September 27, 2022 @ 18:00 - 19:15

Automotive HPC in the Cloud is a hot topic today with both the Product Development and IT Engineering Communities. In 2018, IDC documented that the Cloud Service Providers are now procuring more (greater than 50%) Compute Servers than were going to Traditional Commercial Customer Data Centers. This trend is being followed for Automotive Specific Engineering Design Simulation server deployments, albeit at a slower pace. However, according to Hyperion Research in their May 2022 ISC22 Market Update, End user spending on public cloud resources to run Simulation workloads is projected to grow substantially in 2022, at a rate greater than 23%, to exceed US $6 billion, while On-Premises Simulation spending will continue to grow at a 7% to 8% rate.
In this talk, Rick will discuss some of the bigger pictures questions that individuals or companies should think through when considering how best to use Cloud HPC for Automotive (and other) Product Development processed such as:
Compute Hardware and Infrastructure Architectures for HPC
What workloads are better suited for Cloud HPC and why?
Cloud Service Providers – HPC Geography, Connectivity and Compute Instance Types
OnDemand
Spot/Low Priority
Reserved Instances
What role is played by the ISVs?
Software licensing for the Cloud
Cloud Licensing Challenges and Trends
ISV Centric Cloud “Solutions”
Understanding the subtle differences in Cloud based vs. On-Premises Simulation workflows
3rd Party Cloud Orchestration Platforms
