Fundamental Issues for Successful IP Licensing

October 19, 2017 @ 18:00 - 20:30

Companies around the world have recognized that patents can be a revenue generator rather than just a means of protecting valuable product lines. Increased competition and the rising costs of developing and maintaining patent portfolios have led companies to the conclusion that they need to seek additional revenue and profits from their investments in intellectual property. A successful licensing program requires a systematic approach and uses different skills at different stages of the work. The steps involved will vary based on several considerations of your business strategy and the competitive landscape but will generally involve:

  • Understanding your portfolio;
  • Prioritization and Market / Commercial hypothesis;
  • Target identification;
  • Detailed evidence of use; and,
  • License modeling.

This seminar will provide an overview of the concepts of licensing and certain considerations in establishing a licensing program, whether you are an individual or part of a corporation.
