As the quantity of solar and battery storage plants connected to the distribution system grows the need to fair and efficient procedures for interconnection testing of Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) will increase. These tests have the potential to be an adversarial experience, pitting the interest of the utility against the Independent Power Producer (IPP). This conflict arises in large part from a lack of alignment of interests and a failure to appreciate the counterparties’ obligations and priorities. This presentation reviews some of the common testing criteria through the two perspectives and provides insight in how to ensure mutually beneficial outcomes.
