Electrical Technology in Modern Electric Vehicles -a pdh will be available

Parker's Smokehouse, 16880 Highway 6, Ashland, Nebraska, United States, 68003

Brought to you by IEEE Nebraska Section's IAS and PES Technical Chapters. The evening will begin with a thirty minute networking session at 5:30pm followed by dinner and the Update on Electric Transportation Update presentation at approximately 6:30pm. We have previously learned: The current electric vehicle “renaissance” began over a century ago with one in every three automobiles sold in America being battery powered. The first motorized vehicle to go faster than 60 miles per hour was electric. Ferdinand Porsche’s first car was electric. Henry Ford and Thomas Edison collaborated on electric cars. Now it seems we’ve come full circle as the likes of Volkswagen and Ford and GM and Nissan all try to catch up with Tesla. Co-sponsored by: Rebecca Furtado - IEEE Nebraska Section Chair Speaker(s): Dr. Don Cox, Agenda: 5:30pm - Sign in and networking 6:00pm - Dinner starts and EV Presentation follows 7:30pm - Q & A Parker's Smokehouse, 16880 Highway 6, Ashland, Nebraska, United States, 68003

Southeastern Michigan Section Senior Member Elevation (an In-Person Event!)

Room: EC 281, Bldg: Engineering Center, Oakland University, 115 Library Drive, Rochester, Michigan, United States, 48326

IEEE Senior Member is the highest IEEE member grade for which IEEE members can apply and does not incur any additional cost or fees. The Senior Member grade is a way for the IEEE members to receive recognition for their professional experience and significant performance in Electrical and Electronics Engineering, and the related fields including Computer Science and Information Technology, Physical Sciences, Biological and Medical Sciences, Mathematics, Technical Communications, Education, Management, Law, and Policy. The advancement to Senior Member provides the IEEE members with significant and distinct benefits. These benefits include the eligibility to hold Executive IEEE Volunteer Positions and getting recognition of your peers for technical and professional excellence. Newly elevated senior members will also receive an engraved senior member plaque from IEEE. Senior Member Elevation: IEEE SEM Section Membership Committee will reprise its Senior Member Elevation event, on Saturday from 10:00AM to 12 noon <In person> Elevation: Senior Member Reviewers will assist interested member candidates with at least 10 years of experience in their profession. The way it works is: At least a 10 years of significant experience with BS degree needs be be established to initiate the senior membership elevation. (A Ph.D is considered to be 5 years of significant experience and a master degree is considered to be 2 years of significant experience. The remaining 5 (with PhD) to 8 (with MS degree) years of significant experience should be established from the member experience in his/her profession to initiate and submit applications for Senior Member Elevation.) Note: There is no cost to becoming a Senior Member, and this step is a necessary prelude to seeking the IEEE ‘Fellow’ level. Some IEEE positions are open only to senior members, For a complete description of the Senior Member process and its benefits, see the link at: https://www.ieee.org/membership_services/membership/grade_elevation.html To (https://events.vtools.ieee.org/m/416546)for "Elevation" Time Slot, please(https://events.vtools.ieee.org/m/422558)for the event and consider contacting existing senior members/fellows as references; also bring an electronic copy of your resume, and relevant supporting materials (list of papers published, standards work done, patents, awards, senior/leadership positions, etc). Here is a link to (https://www.ieee.org/membership/senior/deadlines.html) before filing your application. Also you may seek to contact or network with other Southeastern Michigan Section members who were upgraded to senior status. Networking: * We recommend that attendees join us in person, we will create 1-on-1 sessions, one for each reference (at least) * NOTE: Preference given to members of Southeastern Michigan first! Time permitting we can follow up with members from outside the Section * The whole idea of the Saturday meeting: - - Is to learn and connect with references. when references meet you and interact - Once they know you, they can do a better job of writing a reference - Get tips on what to upload to the online application - Learn what areas to include/highlight for the supplemental materials - Learn not to simply copy paste the CV to the different areas of the online application. Co-sponsored by: Sharan Kalwani Speaker(s): , Sharan Kalwani Agenda: AGENDA (Saturday) 10:00 AM - Introductions, and Elevation processing. 11:30 AM - Wrap up, Clean up, Solidify new friendships, contacts, networking, pizza and temporarily say 'Good bye' Room: EC 281, Bldg: Engineering Center, Oakland University, 115 Library Drive, Rochester, Michigan, United States, 48326

IEEE-USA Livestream Webinar: Using Hybrid Work to Improve Retention and Productivity While Cutting Costs

Virtual: https://events.vtools.ieee.org/m/427447

This dynamic session uses case studies drawn from the IEEE community to help you dramatically improve your ability to use hybrid work as an instrument to improve retention and productivity while cutting costs. Many leaders rely on traditional office-centric collaboration and leadership styles in managing hybrid teams. Yet research conclusively demonstrates that, instead of incrementally improving on the old-school office-centric approach, the best outcomes in managing hybrid teams come from adopting a flexible hybrid-first work model. Doing so results in much higher retention and productivity, reduces costs, and boosts engagement, innovation, collaboration, and risk mitigation. Through adopting hybrid work best practices based on this training, you will empower yourself and your team to maximize retention, productivity, and cost savings in our increasingly-disrupted future of work. All attendees will have an opportunity to receive a complimentary copy of the speaker's best-selling book on which this talk is based, called Returning to the Office and Leading Hybrid and Remote Teams. Speaker(s): Dr. Gleb Tsipursky Agenda: IEEE-USA's free webinars/events are designed to help you find your next job, maintain your career, negotiate an appropriate salary, understand ethical considerations in the workplace and learn about other career-building strategies and public policy developments that affect your profession. IEEE-USA Livestream Webinar: Re-Entering the Workforce

Virtual: https://events.vtools.ieee.org/m/427453

This webinar is a collaboration between IEEE-USA Career & Member Services and IEEE Women in Engineering (WIE). Trying to re-enter the workforce after an extended absence presents challenges, and can be a daunting task. Changes have happened in the workplace and in technologies used. The atmosphere and expectations may have changed (for example, the impacts COVID had on remote work for many jobs!) You have changed… and self-doubt may have crept in after being away! However, preparing in advance is the key to easing the challenges. In this talk, you will hear about my own return to work after 12 years of minimal part-time employment in my field, and also information from my own research into what experts recommend. You will learn: - What is an extended absence (and the impact of how long “extended” is!) - Why it is important to prepare for returning - When to start preparing - How to prepare - Who to seek out for support / assistance - Where to look for opportunities Speaker(s): Jill Gostin Agenda: IEEE-USA's free webinars/events are designed to help you find your next job, maintain your career, negotiate an appropriate salary, understand ethical considerations in the workplace and learn about other career-building strategies and public policy developments that affect your profession.
