However, members reside in states from the Atlantic Coast to the West Coast as well as Canada and several foreign countries. The CSVHFS holds a Technical Conference once a year. The conference raises the technical knowledge of amateurs by providing: - A forum for presenting technical papers relating to VHF, UHF, and Microwave - A focal point for the discussion of operating practices and procedures - The exploration of modes such as Earth-Moon-Earth, Meteor Scatter, Field Aligned Irregularities, and E-skip - A discussion of other topics that promote operation on Amateur bands above 50 MHz The Technical Conference includes: - An Antenna Range - Noise Figure Measurement - Rover Row - Dish Bowl - Flea Market - Vendor Room The conference also provides a family program for spouses and children. The latest McKinsey Global Survey on AI in May of 2024 concludes that 2023 was the year the world discovered generative AI (GenAI) and 2024 is the year organizations truly began using—and deriving business value from—this new technology. An incredible 65 percent of respondents report that their organizations are regularly using GenAI, which is nearly double the percentage from the previous survey just ten months before. Respondents’ expectations for gen AI’s impact remain as high with three-quarters predicting that gen AI will lead to significant or disruptive change in their industries in the years ahead. This session is an invaluable opportunity for business leaders like you to overcome your hesitation and uncertainty of AI. Mastering AI tools and techniques is not just about keeping pace with technology; it's about leveraging these advanced resources to fill in knowledge gaps, enhance decision-making, and drive productivity. Learning to utilize AI not only streamlines operations but also significantly boosts your capacity to deliver increased business outcomes, making you more valuable and a strategic asset to your organization. You will leave equipped with practical, actionable strategies that you can implement immediately, turning your uncertainty into confidence and empowering you to leverage AI effectively in your daily tasks. Goldilocks' FireBreak is a cybersecurity appliance developed in conjunction with NATO that provides unparalleled Layer 1 physical isolation protection for your critical digital assets and networks. It is not a replacement for existing cybersecurity tools; it's a complementary solution that enhances their effectiveness with layers and depth. While traditional cybersecurity tools are essential, they often leave gaps in protection that can be exploited by determined adversaries. Goldilock FireBreak addresses these vulnerabilities, enabling you to: - Significantly Reduce Your Attack Surface: - By physically isolating assets and networks, you drastically limit the potential entry points for malicious actors, making your systems far less vulnerable to attack. - Physically Segment and Isolate Assets: - Create true airgaps that protect your most sensitive systems from unauthorized access, even without an internet connection. - Achieve Granular Control: - Disconnect and isolate individual network segments or endpoints with precision and ease. - Respond Instantly to Threats: - Quickly and remotely isolate compromised systems, preventing the spread of attacks and minimizing damage. Speaker(s): Michael Vallas, Jacob Myers Agenda: 6:00 pm - Introductions 6:05 pm - start of main technical talk 6:50 pm - end of talk, start Q&A 7:00 pm - Conclusion of virtual event. Under Don’s leadership, the IEEE Fellow Committee has planned a full implementation of the BoD approved improvements, particularly specific measures for industry member engagement, particularly on standards development. The IEEE fellow grade is a prestigious recognition by the Institute to a single individual for his or her technical accomplishments, impacting society at large. It commands global acclaim and is a prestigious honor eagerly pursued by individuals worldwide. How do you answer the question then: Am I qualified to be considered for an IEEE fellow, particularly, as a member from industry? What is the best way to prepare a nomination package? And how re your nomination going to be evaluated? This talk by Dr. Tan will provide a unique perspective from an IEEE Fellow Committee Immediate Past Chair's viewpoint. It aims to demystify the fellow nomination and evaluation process. He will discuss, with industry member focus, on recent fellow statistics, nomination package preparation, contribution category selection, and qualification characteristics matrix (e.g., selection criteria) details. A few samples from past successful nominations will be presented and discussed as well. Speaker(s): , Dr Don Tan Virtual: https://events.vtools.ieee.org/m/427797

[] Abstract: Electronics, power electronics, and electric machines are becoming important for an array of mobility/transportation, renewable energy and energy efficiency applications. In this presentation, I will introduce NREL and my group. I will describe some metrics, challenges, and opportunities for power electronics, electric machines, and electric traction-drive systems for light-, medium-, and heavy-duty vehicle applications. After that, I will give an overview of my group’s research activities in power electronics, electric machines and integrated (electric) traction-drive systems. This includes thermal management, thermomechanical reliability, state-of-health monitoring, and power module design, development, fabrication, and characterization aspects. Then, I will cover the power electronics thermal management experiences and background in some detail, including fluid-based cooling technologies, and efforts at both the power module- and inverter/converter level. Abstract: Recent federal legislative and regulatory action along changing resource mixes are causing rapid shifts in how our energy system is being utilized. Two pieces of Federal legislation, the CHIPS act and the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) are driving an increase in domestic manufacturing leading to load growth and increased renewable energy demand. Additionally, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission passed two groundbreaking rules. The first, Order 2023, changes the way that generation is processed by interconnecting utilities. The second, Order 1920, moves transmission planning towards a more proactive and holistic construct. During this talk we will talk about how this all fits to together and what regulatory barriers still exist preventing us from fully building the transmission grid that we need at the lowest possible cost. Speaker: David Mindham DAVID MINDHAM is presently Associate VP, Regulatory & Market Affairs for EDP Renewables. In that role, he oversees a team that develops and implements transmission and market strategy in multiple jurisdictions across North America. He is active in several RTO stakeholder forums, including chair of the MISO Interconnection Process Working Group, a member of the SPP Strategic Planning and Members Committees, and a member of the ERCOT Protocol Revisions Subcommittee. He serves on the Board of Directors of Americans for a Clean Energy Grid, IEEE-USA, Clean Grid Alliance, and Southern Renewable Energy Association. Before his current role, he has held positions in RTO strategy, FERC strategy, and transmission planning at ITC Holdings Corp. Agenda: 1. Socializing and Dinner (6:00 pm-6:30pm) 2.
