Electrical Technology in Modern Electric Vehicles

Parker's Smokehouse, 16880 Highway 6, Ashland, Nebraska, United States, 68003

Brought to you by IEEE Nebraska Section's IAS and PES Technical Chapters. The evening will begin with a thirty minute networking session at 5:30pm followed by dinner and the Update on Electric Transportation Update presentation at approximately 6:30pm. We have previously learned: The current electric vehicle “renaissance” began over a century ago with one in every three automobiles sold in America being battery powered. The first motorized vehicle to go faster than 60 miles per hour was electric. Ferdinand Porsche’s first car was electric. Henry Ford and Thomas Edison collaborated on electric cars. Now it seems we’ve come full circle as the likes of Volkswagen, Ford, GM, and Nissan all try to catch up with Tesla. The performance of modern Electric Vehicles is significantly better than that of earlier EVs. The higher energy storge and power output of Li Ion batteries is perhaps the most important contributor, but several other improved electrical components have also contributed significantly. These include three phase AC motors, high efficiency power electronics in DC to AC inverters, and microcomputers in motor controllers. Performance improving technologies and their introduction in EVs are discussed in this presentation. Experience with modern electric cars will be available for attendees. NOTE: PDH's AVAILABLE UPON REQUEST Co-sponsored by: Rebecca Furtado - IEEE Nebraska Section Chair Speaker(s): Dr. Don Cox, Agenda: 5:30pm - Sign in and networking 6:00pm - Dinner starts and EV Presentation follows 7:30pm - Q & A Parker's Smokehouse, 16880 Highway 6, Ashland, Nebraska, United States, 68003
