ALL WEST MICHIGAN SECTION IEEE MEMBERS, INCLUDING STUDENT BRANCH MEMBERS, ARE INVITED TO DROP-IN AT THE ANNUAL AMATEUR RADIO FIELD DAY CONTEST EVENT TO BE HELD FROM 2 PM SATURDAY, JUNE 22, THROUGH 2 PM SUNDAY June 23, AT THE GVSU ALLENDALE CAMPUS. This national event of “ham” clubs all over the U.S. is being conducted locally by the Grand Rapids Amateur Radio Association (W8DC) and the GVSU Amateur Radio Club (W8GVU). The West MI Section IEEE will be their guest and will provide a free “Jimmy Johns” picnic lunch for all attendees from 1:30 to 2 PM on Saturday. This will be just before on-the-air activities commence. Note the FD site is just inside the campus north entrance off M-45 and close to Lubbers Stadium. Specifically, it’s outside the Ravine Center building. The RaC address is 4310 W Ravine Center Dr, Allendale, MI 49401. Look for the radio operator tents and antennas. No GVSU parking sticker is required on the weekend. To plan for enough sandwiches all IEEE Members that will be at the FD site for the 1:30 P.M. picnic lunch please RSVP to our WMS Vice-Chair, Ron Fredricks K8DMR, at [email protected] before Friday, the 21st. (There is an underscore between Ron and Fredricks). Note: If you forget to RSVP until it’s too late or make a last minute decision to attend the kick-off picnic lunch, come anyway as we will most probably have extra food. Of course, all are also invited to drop in anytime during the 24 hour contest period.
