The semester’s final MIPSE seminar will be presented by Dr. Denise Hinkel of Lawrence Livermore National Lab on Wednesday, April 3 at 3:30 pm in Room 1005 EECS. In this seminar, titled “To Ignition and Beyond”, Dr. Hinkel will describe the path towards achieving laser driven, inertial confinement fusion (ICF) ignition at the National Ignition Facility. The design of the indirect drive capsule for the first demonstration of ignition will be described and, based on attempted repeats of that performance, improved capsule designs that provide higher fusion gain. The path forward for ICF will be discussed.
