RF Radiated Emissions from Electric Vehicles – Regulatory Challenges

October 23, 2025 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm CDT

On Thursday, October 23, 2025, the IEEE Central Illinois Section will host a technical talk on the topic of Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC). The Peoria-based event will focus on radio frequency (RF) emissions of electric vehicle (EV) powertrains. This is an in-person and online (i.e., hybrid) event. Remote attendees may join using the attached WebEx teleconferencing link or telephone number.
Abstract: Unlike internal combustion engines, electric powertrain in automotive applications pose much greater challenges in meeting regulatory requirements with respect to far-field radiated RF emissions. This talk will review the basic physical mechanisms of the EV powertrain that contribute toward RF emissions from the vehicle. Various mitigation techniques are summarized along with the engineering tradeoffs they create. Current and future regulatory requirements are also reviewed.
PARKING
This event will take place on the Bradley University campus in the 4th floor of the Business and Engineering (BECC) building. In addition to street-level parking along Main St., there are two visitor parking lots:
