Guest Lecture Focus
A product of the IEEE Global Initiative on Ethics of Autonomous and Intelligent Systems, IEEE Std 7009-2024 establishes a requirement-based framework for the design of fail-safe autonomous and semi-autonomous systems. Both the (https://ieeexplore.ieee.org/browse/standards/get-program/page/series?id=93) and associated (https://zenodo.org/doi/10.5281/zenodo.13292021) are freely available for download.
The focus of the lecture will be on the means by which the standard, and in-work extensions to it, can address the range of emerging challenges in respect of safety arising from the unfolding 'Cambrian explosion' of AI powered autonomous systems.
