ARISE: Radio-Based Interactive SETI Education

ARISE (Radio-Based Interactive SETI Education) is a full-day interdisciplinary workshop
hosted at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign on Sunday, October 5, 2025.
Hosted in collaboration with the SETI (Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence) Institute.
This unique event includes:
– Access to the Allen Telescope Array (ATA)!
– Hands-on labs using custom high-gain dish antennas and Low Noise Amplifier (LNA) receiver kits!
– Real-time signal analysis using GNU Radio!
– Direct, in-person interaction with SETI researchers!
🧪 Students will work with real satellite and interplanetary data across three guided lab sessions:
– Lab 1: 21 cm Hydrogen Mapping in the Milky Way (ATA-based)
– Lab 2: Mars Orbiters & Technosignature Search (ATA-based)
– Lab 3: Decoding Imagery from GOES Weather Satellites (Dish antenna kit-based)
