Introduction to Microgrids – Workshop

October 30, 2019 @ 16:00 - 20:00

Attendees will receive 5 PDHs issued by IEEE Southeastern Michigan for their attendance.

There is a $10 to cover the cost of the room. please register below.

Microgrids are increasing deployed to improve resiliency as well as reduce costs and advance sustainability.  The design challenge is to create a system with generation that functions both when paralleled to the utility and when islanded.  When paralleled, the microgrid must not disrupt voltage regulation, protection or dynamic response in the utility’s local area.  Grounding must coordinate for both modes so that voltage excursions are not introduced and ground fault protection is not compromised.  Each type of microgrid generation technology has specific characteristics that must be considered.  This tutorial will review these issues in addition to network configuration, controls, and financial factors.  The principles will be illustrated with several examples.
