Feb Talk: Overview of Finite Element Analysis (FEA) Methodology and its Applications (HYBRID)
February 22, 2024 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm EST
IEEE of Southern MN will be kicking off our winter programming with a technical talk on an overview of the Finite Element Analysis (FEA) methodology and its applications. As in the past, food and beverages will be provided for in-person attendees in Mann Hall of the Medical Sciences Building.
The Finite Element Analysis (FEA) methodology continues to grow in popularity thanks to the rapid increase in affordable computing power and easy to use software. This surge in accessibility has enabled companies of all sizes to adopt FEA into their design process. A well implemented process allows for better product designs, at lower cost, and with a faster development time. IBM has been leveraging FEA for over 20 years as part of its design best practices and has seen significant technological benefits and cost savings as a result. This talk will cover the fundamental theory of FEA, key concepts that are utilized in its application, and how to ensure model accuracy. Additionally, some tips and tricks will be shared for getting started with your own FEA simulations. Throughout the presentation, examples of how these principles are applied to IBM products will be shared to illustrate key concepts.
