The Future of SF6 Legislative and Operational Considerations for the Transition from SF6 to SF6 Alternative Gas Technologies

Presentation on the legislative changes and obligations faced by utilities associated with the changes with SF6 bans and the transition away from SF6 insulating gas technologies.  As the transition from SF6 to alternative insulating gas technologies gathers speed, new standards and guidelines are slowly catching up and influencing the daily operations of utilities.  Challenges, sometimes difficult ones, are being learnt globally as the industry adopts these new technologies; here we will discuss some of those practical challenges and how utilities have faced and overcome them.

More than 20 years experience in gas sensing and analysis across multiple markets (Oil & Gas, Pharmaceutical, Electrical). Working group member on SF6 and SF6 alternatives for CIGRE and IEC, authoring two new IEC testing standards for SF6 alternatives and a CIGRE user guide for Non-SF6 gases and mixtures for use in Substations.
