DER Landscape at ComEd

The Climate and Equitable Jobs Act (CEJA), enacted in 2021, underscores Illinois’ commitment to decarbonization efforts. Key objectives include reaching 1 million electric vehicles on the road by 2030, sourcing 50% of total energy from renewables by 2040, and achieving net-zero emissions by 2045. Commonwealth Edison (ComEd), the largest utility in Illinois serving Northern Illinois and Chicago, with approximately 4.2 million customers, plays an important part in advancing these targets.

This presentation, led by Dr. Shikhar Pandey, Senior Manager of DER Planning and Engineering at ComEd, delves into the landscape of Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) within the company, along with trend analysis. Dr. Pandey will elaborate on essential concepts such as Hosting Capacity, a tool empowering customers to strategically position their DERs, the Value of DER which determines rebates for distributed generation installations, and Non-Wires Alternatives. Additionally, the discussion will explore DER Management Systems, Dynamic Hosting Capacity, and Flexible Interconnections.
