Goal Achievement – Beyond SMART: Leveraging YOUR Strengths and Identifying Saboteurs

Join award-winning instructor and leadership integrity facilitator Dr. Alex Flueck on July 15th for an interactive ONLINE workshop designed for (occasionally or chronically) overextended professionals looking for a new way to improve performance, lower unproductive stress, and strengthen vital work relationships.

Let’s be honest.  It’s nearly impossible to achieve big goals that demand creativity, inspired action and high quality teamwork, when you’re stressed, distracted or distrustful.  If you are struggling to achieve a big goal, then this is the perfect opportunity to step back and examine the facts, before you waste more time.

In the spirit of being courageous and willing to sit with the truth, which of the following options will lead to the biggest improvement in your future well-being?

  1. Spend four more hours grinding away in the all-too-familiar overextended, stressed-out mode that leaves you frustrated, exhausted and disengaged, or
  2. Invest those same four hours learning how to leverage your strengths and identify saboteurs so you can achieve your goals with greater ease and speed.

Yes, you can achieve your big meaningful goals with more ease and speed!  It’s time to invest in your success.  Attend the workshop to find out how you can supercharge your ability to get important tasks done (and restore your confidence to achieve your goals).

Alex Flueck, Illinois Tech

Dr. Alex Flueck is a Senior Member of the IEEE and a Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Illinois Institute of Technology. He has been a member of the faculty for 26 years, since receiving his PhD degree from Cornell University in 1996. He has led over $4 million worth of transformational research projects funded by the National Science Foundation, US Department of Energy, and other industrial, international, and private partners. Alex’s passion for teaching was recognized early in his career when he received the Bauer Family Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching.

In January of 2022, Alex committed to including a Mindfulness Minute at the beginning of every class for the spring semester. This experiment turned out to be a more significant innovation than he expected, even though he had benefitted from his own meditation practice. In his graduate-level AI for Smart Grid course, students reported the following mindfulness gains in the anonymous survey at the end of the semester: “New ways to cope with stress”, “More focus for class”, “Tools to concentrate and calm down when I’m feeling anxious”, “Patience and relaxation”, “Control of my mind and anxiety”, “Confidence in my presentation”.

At the start of Alex’s career as an introverted professor, he challenged himself by hosting “open house” events for prospective students. He told them how he taught and coached by creating new ways for them to hone their skills and grow as professionals. After years of developing his style of leadership integrity, his relentless drive overwhelmed him and drove him into the ground. His burnout taught him a huge lesson about ignoring his gut instinct. And from the ashes, he recovered his passion for coaching leaders and facilitating their healthy growth.

Alex’s coaching practice and workshops build upon two fundamentals: 1) Focus on the things that matter most, and 2) Understand the doubts that don’t serve us.  He is best known for his ability to connect with people and create a “safe space” for them to explore the root cause of their unproductive stress, fatigue and frustration.  Alex helps his clients reconnect with their adventurous spirit, so they can shift their beliefs about their abilities, and design their daily activities to achieve their goals.
