1) Analysis of electric field due to corona discharge of HVDC overhead lines, 2) Corona Discharge and Suppression of High Voltage Power Transmission Conductors in Complex Conditions
October 11, 2024 @ 12:25 pm - 1:15 pm EDT
1) Abstract:
The space charges due to corona discharge along ultra-high-voltage direct-current (UHVDC) lines can increase the electric field on the ground level. In China, in order to protect the residents nearby, the electric field has to be modeled and predicted before the design of HVDC projects. The development of UHVDC lines and the limit of the electric field will be introduced first. After the modeling and calculation method for the electric field of HVDC overhead lines is discussed, the characteristics of the electric field for some particular cases are analyzed, including the electric field around the buildings and the effect of the suspended particles in the air.
2) Abstract:
Corona discharge and its related Electromagnetic environment issues are important in HVAC/HVDC power energy transmission systems; operating conditions and the external environment are very complex during long-distance power transmission. The effect of surface conditions on the electromagnetic environment of HVAC power transmission lines will be given. First, the effect of particulate matter on the electromagnetic environment of HVDC conductors will be presented. The application of TiO2-based photocatalysis functional materials in corona-discharge suppression will be discussed thereafter. Some typical ongoing and future work in this research field will be introduced finally.
